I have a cohort of mentees already and prioritize those at my institution. If you are a Brown University medical student or a medical/ pre-medical student in the New England area and would like to shadow me, please go to the contact page and reach out to my assistant to coordinate.
For general “mentorship” questions, please keep an eye out for my monthly Instagram Lives, where you will have an opportunity to ask me frequently asked questions.
Please visit my Instagram account here and check out my Mentorship highlight for more details.

I have been drawing and writing for as long as I can remember. I took a few creative writing courses in college but am largely self-taught.
-
I draw on my iPad Pro (9.7) with an Apple pencil (but I had a regular iPad for the longest time and it worked just fine!) I draw pretty much exclusively in Procreate.
-
I have always used art as a form of self-expression, and so it’s not so much that I find time than it is that I make time. It’s almost a compulsion! The creatives will understand. (Also, those who know me irl know that while I’m outgoing, I’m quite introverted, and so this is what I do with my free time!)
-
Unfortunately, I cannot. If you would like me to cover a topic in cardiology on my page, please leave a comment on one of my videos! I take those into account when considering which topics to cover!

To request an in person or virtual speaking engagement, please contact Authors Unbound or view my Speaking Profile. I do not do speaking engagements for free / with travel expenses covered, unfortunately.

If you are asking for nonexclusive rights for a book, please email my assistant Oyinkansola Subair (oyinkansola.subair@gmail.com) with the following information:
1) How many pages of the book will contain my work
2) how many pages will the book be in total
3) the expected sticker price of the book and
4) how many copies will be printed. We will get a quote to you according to your response. I can provide you with a non-watermarked hi-res version of comics you request (300 dpi).
You should feel free to use my comics in your non-commercial presentations. Please credit/ tag me (@shirlywhirlmd or Shirlene Obuobi, MD works GREAT!)

I am no longer open to commissions.

Please indicate whether you would like to interview me about my books or my comics. If you would like to interview me about my writing, please contact my publicists. If you would like to interview me about my comics, please contact my assistant. Unfortunately, I cannot accommodate most requests. I’m more likely to be able to do written interviews.

On Rotation is not about me. Angie is not me. Like most writers, I tend to write from experience, and my experience happens to be one of a Black (and specifically Ghanaian-American) woman in medicine. If Angie feels real, it’s because I love to do character work, not because her thoughts / perspectives/ reactions are my own. And if you read OR and found her a bit infuriating, well, you’re reading her as the author intended.
-
I don’t yet! But I intend to get on that sometime soon! :)

I googled the process. -_-. No, seriously. Look up the difference between traditional and self publishing, figure out what genre you’re attempting to write in and what the conventions are, etc. The process for romance is very different from memoir, and there are a lot of helpful online communities like Manuscript Wishlist, r/PubTips, and QueryShark (RIP) that you can take advantage of depending on what your goals are.
