FAQ.
When did you start drawing / writing?
I have been drawing and writing for as long as I can remember.
When did you start drawing / writing?
I use art to cope, and so it’s not so much that I find time than it is that I make time. I also tend to draw in my idle time, like when I’m watching a movie.
Can I have nonexclusive rights to reproduce your comics in my publication?
If you are asking for nonexclusive rights for a book, please email my assistant Oyinkansola Subair (oyinkansola.subair@gmail.com) with the following information: 1) How many pages of the book will contain my work 2) how many pages will the book be in total 3) the expected sticker price of the book and 4) how many copies will be printed. We will get a quote to you according to your response. I can provide you with a non-watermarked hi-res version of comics you request (300 dpi).
You should feel free to use my comics in your non-commercial presentations. Please credit me (@shirlywhirlmd or Shirlene Obuobi, MD works GREAT!)
Please? It’s for an important journal article and–
Absolutely not. :) You can shoot your shot in my contact form tho. I will still say no.
I am very interested in cardiology! Can you mentor me ?
I would love to be able to mentor you, but I’m spinning too many plates right now. Please visit my Instagram account here and check out my Mentorship highlight for more details.
How do I read deleted scenes from ON ROTATION?
Join my Patreon to get access to deleted scenes from ON ROTATION.
What tools do you use to draw?
I draw on my iPad Pro (9.7) with an Apple pen. I use Procreate pretty much exclusively.
Can you please give a talk for my event?
To request an in person or virtual speaking engagement, please contact Authors Unbound, or view my SPEAKING PROFILE. Unfortunately at this time I cannot do speaking events for free.
Can you please give a talk for my event?
I am no longer open to commissions. I do occasionally open up to Medical Magical Girls, however. These cost a $500 flat rate access fee, and, while I will ask for your opinions, the understanding for these is that I have most of the creative control.
Would you be interested in illustrating a picture book for me / drawing a figure for my study / collaborating on something for free?
No. :)
Will you do an interview / podcast with me?
Please indicate whether you would like to interview me about my books or my comics. If you would like to interview me about my writing, please contact my publicists. If you would like to interview me about my comics, please contact my assistant. Unfortunately, I cannot accommodate most requests. I’m more likely to be able to do written interviews.
How did you take your art from a hobby to scholarly work?
Entirely on accident. I’m just stubborn and wouldn’t stop writing/drawing like I was supposed to. Woops.
